This study looked at how body composition (the amount of fat and muscle in the body) differs in people with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and psoriasis (PsO) compared to those without these conditions. Researchers used data from the UK Biobank, which included MRI scans of the abdomen to measure various fat and muscle indicators. They found that people with PsA and PsO had different body composition profiles than those without these conditions. Specifically, those with PsO had higher levels of liver fat, visceral fat (fat around the organs), and muscle fat infiltration, among other measures. Those with PsA also showed higher liver fat and muscle fat infiltration levels. These findings suggest that the inflammation associated with psoriatic disease may impact body composition.
