Governance
This committee was established to oversee the development and introduction of a set of bylaws for the GRAPPA organisation. Initial discussions took place in June 2005 followed by a review of governance arrangements of other organisations. Following this review a preliminary set of bylaws was drafted and discussed among the committee. The next draft was presented at the GRAPPA meeting adjacent to ACR in San Diego and a final set of bylaws posted on the GRAPPA website for those unable to attend the meeting. After further comments the GRAPPA membership were asked to approve these bylaws in January 2006. A majority of registered GRAPPA members approved these bylaws – 104/195 members voting to adopt them, with one voting against. Elections for Executive Committee and Steering Committee members have taken place and the results will be posted shortly.

Histology/Immunohistochemistry
The Psoriatic Arthritis Immunopathologic Mechanisms (PSAIM) group has 25 members, both rheumatologists and dermatologists, from 13 different centers. PSAIM was established to further develop collaborative research in the fields of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis skin and synovium. An initial inventory has been completed which has documented what archival material is available for future study. Under the leadership of D. Baeten, archival material from 52 spondyloarthropathy patients, including 16 with psoriatic arthritis, has been examined for markers of treatment response (Arthritis Rheum; in press). Analysis showed that changes in synovial macrophage subsets, PMN, and MMP3 expression best reflected clinical response to treatment after 12 weeks. In a further study from Goedkoop et al., significant reductions in T cell and macrophage markers were seen with anti-TNF therapy but no evidence of increased cell apoptosis could be demonstrated. It has now been agreed that a prospective study should be undertaken to examine changes in tissue (skin and synovium) biomarkers at earlier time-points which should predict clinical responses to anti-TNF therapy in PsA. Biopsies of skin and synovium will be obtained at baseline and at 4 weeks and clinical responses will be determined at 12 weeks.

Treatment Guidelines
The goal of this committee is to review the best scientific evidence and ultimately to develop evidenced based guidelines for the treatment of Psoriatic Arthritis. Also, an important goal is to identify areas that need further research and clarification. It is accepted that the goals of treatment are to: improve the signs and symptoms of disease, prevent damage and disability, optimize functional status and quality of life, avoid toxicity.

Website
The GRAPPA Website Committee consists of Dr. Neil McHugh (representing UK), Dr. Philip Mease (representing USA), Dr. Kim Papp (representing Canada), Dr. Enrique Soriano (representing Argentina) and Dr. Peter Nash (representing Australia) a truly International collaboration. The website functions as GRAPPA face to the world with a public section that will include links to helpful educational material and to patient support and advocacy groups. Members can log in via secured username and password to access past presentations and an interactive email and chat room facility. The GRAPPA website outlines GRAPPA’s mission statement and goals as well as highlights GRAPPA’s history, describing the inaugural meeting in New York and subsequent meetings at OMERACT, ACR & EULAR. Accomplishments including the Supplement in the Annals Rheumatic Diseases are listed. GRAPPA committees are listed and membership described. Upcoming meetings are highlighted. Via an interactive map of the world GRAPPA members in individual countries are readily found so that the public and members can have access to the latest information regarding research projects and where to contact GRAPPA members. Whilst a simple site, it aims to be a practical and functional resource for public and membership alike and a window to the International GRAPPA collaboration.
